About Gresham

Gresham originally was known as Campground as pioneers often stopped and made camp in route to Portland. In order to establish itself as a city, Gresham needed a post office and postal code. A local storeowner provided space in his store and the post office was established in May 1884, however, Gresham was not incorporated as a city until 1905. The first mayor of Gresham was Lewis Shattuck.

Gresham has experienced growth from a rural, farming community to a thriving urban area that provides a high quality of life for its residents and business community. A wide variety of outdoor activities, shopping, and art and educational opportunities are available in Gresham. Mt. Hood Community College is located in Gresham and is home to the Mt. Hood Jazz Festival. The Springwater Corridor Trail runs along Johnson Creek through Gresham to downtown Portland. It connects to the Portland 40 Mile Loop trail system. Katie Harman, Miss America 2002, is from Gresham.

These are fantastic people! I was so nervous when I first came in, but they treated me like a human, not someone who had messed up in a major way. Throughout the process, they helped me understand all the steps and supported me both with the legal stuff, but also the personal stuff. J.M.
